The Greensprings Mountain Festival offers a complete Southern Oregon experience this weekend. The music and outdoor-activities festival will feature local bands and musicians performing on four stages, great scenery, activities such as hiking, birding, mountain biking and kayaking, along with crafts, food and art demonstrations.

The festivities begin at 7 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, with registration for outdoor activities and workshops available at a station near Green Springs Inn, 11470 Highway 66, Ashland. Registration and information also is available online at www.greenspringsmountainfestival.org. Early registration is recommended.

Rock and pop music will be performed from noon to 7 p.m. by The Rogue Suspects, LEFT, the Teri Coté Band and others on the North Mountain Stage.

Guitarist Craig Chaquico headlines the lineup at 6 p.m. Chaquico was a member of Jefferson Starship in the ’70s, and in the band’s ’80s incarnation, Starship. He’ll perform solo, acoustic originals and sit in with the Teri Coté Band.

Born in Sacramento, Calif., and closely associated with the music of San Francisco for much of his career, Chaquico now lives in Ashland, where he maintains a recording studio.

Also look for the Brian Swan Band, Robbie DaCosta and Rob Tyre on the North Mountain Stage.

The Waltz, Jive Coulis, the Huckleberry Mountain Goats, Jen Ambrose and Justin Gordon and Wrecking Ball will perform on the South Mountain Stage.

Look for Glenn and Carolyn Dawson, Deux Coté, Jeff Higley, Phoenix Sigalove and Ben Gaskin on the Wine Garden Stage.

Sage Meadows and High Country, Rainy and the Rattlesnakes, Jef Fretwell and the Detractors, Gene Burnett, Eight Dollar Mountain, Michelle Bellamy and Siskiyou Summit will play the Bluegrass Stage, featuring a beer garden by Caldera Brewing Co.

A pancake breakfast will be served from 7:30 to 11 a.m. at Mountain View Christian Church. The cost is $5. A hearty breakfast also will be served for $5 at the fire station adjacent to the Green Springs Inn, along with a barbecue lunch and dinner. Lunch or dinner costs $10.

While the activities and workshops range from kayaking to painting landscapes with local artist Harriett Rex Smith, field trips planned for Saturday morning include an exploration of the Applegate Trail, bird and botany walks and tours of Pinehurst School. There will be 2-kilometer and 5-kilometer runs, along with a cruiser-bike poker run. Fees for activities and workshops range from $5 to $25.

Music festival tickets cost $20 in advance, $5 for ages 12 and younger, and are available at Greensprings Inn and Music Coop in Ashland, Bad Ass Coffee in Medford or online at www.greenspringsmountainfestival.org. Tickets will cost $30 at the gate, $5 for those 12 and younger.

Proceeds from the festival will benefit Greensprings Fire and Rescue, Pinehurst School and the Greensprings Food Pantry.
